Here you will find my own best loved books. From They All Saw a Cat to Tar Beach – there are hundreds that are WONDERFUL!

Now, for my list in no particular order (it should also include The Velveteen Rabbit and all of Beatrix Potter’s works and illustrations):

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus – Mo Willems – ALL TIME favorite and FUNNY
Journey – Aaron Becker – wonderful story with NO WORDS
Miss Maple’s Seeds – a lovely myth about something very real
Deep in the Sahara – Kelly Cunnane & Hoda Hadadi – a girl’s heart longs for a symbol
Oliver – Brigitta Sif – You are different? Really?
The Watermelon Seed – Greg Pizzoli – a “yummy” tale
Mem Fox’s books like Koala Lou, Possum Magic, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partdridge, and Where Is the Green Sheep?
The Meaning of Maggie – Megan Jean Sovern – an brilliant 11-year old’s journal of the year of growing up
Jane Yolen’s work – anything, but Elsie’s Bird remains my favorite (writes for all ages)
Peter Reynold’s simple, lovely books – Sky Color or The Dot, for example
Tar Beach – Faith Ringgold – ever been there?
Beautiful Yetta, the Yiddish Chicken – Daniel Manus Pinkwater – a friendship story in several languages
Bun, Bun Button – Patricia Polacco – about the power & preciousness of favorites
The Hiccupotomus – Aaron Zenz – illustrations so marvelous, and it’s FUNNY too!
The Quiet Book – Deborah Underwood – nails it for just about any situation
The Magic Treehouse series (older readers – upper elementary) Mary Pope Osborne, AND a picture book The Christmas Horse 
Toot & Puddle – Holly Hobbie – every book, two adorable & very different friends
Hi, Harry! – Martin Waddell (any of his books, really) – about a turtle’s friendship (inside each back cover, Mr. Waddell will tell you WHY he was inspired to write the story).

 I got every single one of these books at my local library for free. I LOVE libraries!!
